Volunteers

The West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped is a non-profit organization that is operated by a volunteer board. The presence of volunteers at all levels of the agency’s activities enriches the quality of life of individuals in the community.

The West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped is always expanding its actual bank of volunteers. Volunteers provide opportunity for reciprocal relationships to the benefit of society and individuals. Volunteering is a chance to make a difference in someone’s life and often the volunteer feels he or she receives more than they give.

The association is continuously recruiting individuals wanting to get involved and to contribute to improving the quality of life of developmentally handicapped individuals. Individuals wishing to volunteer might be interested in one of the following possibilities:

  • Recreation and leisure activities in our special programs or one one one with the integration service.
  • As a Board Member.
  • Supporting young children at the Pat Roberts Centre.
  • Sitting on Advisory Committees (Recreation, Personnel, Finance, 50th Anniversary, etc)
  • Working in our Resource Centre.
  • Providing newsletter articles or translating them.
  • At one of our special events or activities.
  • Visiting in our residence.
